Ikoma Building (生駒ビルヂング)

This retro-style brick building was built in 1930 for the Ikoma family's watch business, which was founded in 1870. The building itself is a registered cultural property and retains much of its original style—a numberless clock tower decorates the facade and stone eagles look down from their window perches. The elegant Italian marble staircase winds upwards beside the once functioning hand-operated elevator. During WWII under strict orders, almost all metal objects and furnishings in the building were sent to be melted down, with the exception of the company bell, which can be seen in the 1st floor lobby, which is open to visitors. There is also a cafe serving alcohol and caffeinated beverages.
