Kissa Suigei (喫茶水鯨)

This retro junsui kissa style coffee shop opened in 2021 under new owners who show a deep appreciation for kissaten (traditional coffee shop) culture and the coffee shop that was previously here for 50 years! Much of the interior has been carefully preserved leaving patrons to dine surrounded by stained glass windows, vintage lamps, and an altogether charming atmosphere. The menu includes kissaten favorites like cream soda floats, pudding a la mode, and a scrumptious variety of toasts to choose from.
Located directly across the street from Kawaguchi Christ Church Cathedral, the stone building that houses the cafe and the gothic style church building are beautiful remnants of the area's history. Both buildings are from the early twentieth century and you can still feel the charms of the Old Kawaguchi Settlement (1868–1899), which was once one of the few regions in Japan that were open to foreign business and residents.
