It venerates the Shinto god of learning, Sugawara no Michizane, and is a popular place for students praying to pass their exams.<\/p>\n<p>The annual Tenjin-matsuri Festival, held July 24-25, is one of Osaka&#8217;s biggest festivals. Processions of parade floats and boats can be seen in the streets and waterways near the shrine.
