This Shinto shrine is dedicated to Ebisu (aka Ebessan) the god of good luck, prosperity, and fishing. Originally established in the seventh century, a fish and produce market sprung up near the shrine a few hundred years later.

\nThe shrine is well-known for its incredibly popular Toka Ebisu Festival held on Jan. 9-11. Approximately 1 million people visit the shrine during the three-day festival. Nearby streets are filled with street stalls selling food and merchandise late into the night.
