This famous food market is located in a covered shopping street in Osaka’s Minami District near Nipponbashi. It is popular with restauranteurs for sourcing the freshest ingredients and is fun for those culinarily curious to explore. The market earned its name, Kuromon Ichiba, meaning “black gate market” because of its location. In the early nineteenth century, local fishmongers began to set up shop on the outskirts of Enmyoji Temple, which was once located here, and which had a black main gate entrance.<\/p>\n
