Did you know there are a few things about gyoza that are unique to Japan? Pan-fried is the preferred cooking method over boiling, and garlic is added to the filling. It is even said that the addition of garlic was intentional to allow a pairing with white rice. Gyoza and rice are indeed the perfect match.
So much so that a gyoza and rice plate lunch, called gyoza teishoku, is a long-time local favorite.
