Perhaps the reason why Japanese sweets look so intricately prepared has something to do with colors…
Did you know that traditionally Japan recognized 465 different colors? That sure seems like a lot!
Take for example “yellow”- there was a distinct difference between the hues of amber, andelion, sunflower, etc. And most of the names came from things found in nature.
You can really see the attention to detail in the fine craftsmanship of Japanese sweets!
