Go on an Eating Spree in Osaka! One Place You Don’t Want to Miss—Time Out Market
The new South Building at Grand Green Osaka opened on March 21, 2025.
So what can you do there? Well, there are restaurants and bars, stores for famous brands, a bathing facility and so much more. But I really want to tell you about Time Out Market, the sprawling food court with foods from all over the world.
I have been waiting for Time Out Market to open ever since I saw it in the news a few years ago. This market has gained popularity in 10 countries worldwide, and this is the first time debuting in Asia. Let me show you what all the hype is about!

What is Time Out Market?
So you are probably familiar with that wonderful series of guides to different cities known as Time Out. This local guidebook created in London, eventually grew to cover over 100 cities worldwide. Time Out Market is a collection of gourmet spots selected by the editors of the Time Out magazines.
And since the editors clearly have a discerning eye for good food, you can expect the food at Time Out Market to be spot on.
So let me show you what’s inside this new spot at Grand Green Osaka’s South Building.
Vibes Like a Secret Underground Club
Time Out Market opened inside the basement floor of Grand Green Osaka’s South Building.
It is directly connected to JR Osaka Station via the Umekita underground passage. This time I took a different route and went straight from Umekita Park.
Because I used a set of outdoor stairs to get down to the basement level, it felt a bit like entering a secret underground club.
The outdoor seating looks amazing for warm days.
Going Beyond the Food court Model, This is a Food Market!
Recently I’ve seen a lot of stylish food courts, but this one tops them all! It’s huge, with 800 seats!
The relaxing background music and tasteful lighting, sleek design, bar counter, and the giant monitor playing various scenes gives the space a stylish look that had me thinking “Am I still in Osaka?”
If you’ve ever been in a food court before and felt you couldn’t relax, this is the place for you. You’ll love it here!
There are 17 different kitchens and 2 bars waiting on hand to take your order. And the whole place is designed with such a unified look, you really have to look at the signs to see which restaurant is where.
There are no flashy signs for any of the counters, they each have the same type of lettering above the counter. So you may not even notice some of the famous restaurant names in the line-up when you look at them. But that doesn’t mean they’re hard to find.
Each establishment has a QR code so you can access the menu in English.
Visit Famous Restaurants without Reservations or a Long Wait
With everything from udon and sushi to yakitori, kushikatsu, and curry—they have everything! Out of all the options, I chose a ramen shop that I’ve always wanted try, but haven’t because the location in the middle of the city always has a long line. The shop is called ‘Tori Soba Zagin’ and they have a new brand called ‘Zagin Diversity.’ ‘Zagin’ is famous for its chicken paitan (rich, white chicken broth) ramen.
Apparently, they also offer mobile ordering, but they still follow the classic food court style: you get a buzzer, and when it goes off, you go pick up your order.
I ordered the beef bone paitan ramen, priced at 1,500 yen. Honestly speaking, that’s a price range I’ve never ventured into for ramen before (lol).
And for toppings? Deep-fried burdock root curls—giving it a bold look!
The creamy white paitan broth has a rich and full-body, and the roasted beef gives the dish a subtle elegance. The meat was tender and pairs perfectly with the soup.
The noodles go down smooth and were so easy to eat. Before I knew it, I’d finished the whole bowl! Honestly, I think this dish has opened a new realm of dining, going beyond your simple bowl of ramen.
Their concept here is to embrace diversity, so they also offer a vegan soy sauce soba made without any animal products.
Epic Collab Desserts
For dessert, I chose a place with a long name: JULIAN♡SUCRÉ♡ACID. If you’re from Osaka, that name probably rings a bell, right?
It’s combination of three well-known shops in Osaka, each with its own specialty Julian Ice Cream, Le Sucré-Cœur (a bakery), and Acid Racines (a patisserie).
It’s their first-ever collaboration and it’s definitely something you don’t want to miss.
You can enjoy a mix of three of Osaka’s finest sweets all on one dish. It is superbly luxurious!
Since it was my first time trying Julian, I went with a triple-scoop ice cream sampler. But the menu is full of tempting choices that make the most of this new collaboration, like pudding à la mode or buttered toast paired with ice cream.
Plus there are other amazing options, like famous patisseries and cafes from Kyoto and Gion and popular coffee roasters as well. This is a great place to stop for dessert or an after-meal coffee.
If you are someone who doesn’t like going to cafes alone, don’t worry. You will feel right at home. And there are private rooms too, if you would like to have your own space.
Inside, there are rows of long tables, where you can relax and enjoy your meal. The space goes beyond being just a place to eat. Time Out Market Osaka was created to be a space where you can experience Time Out Magazine in real life.
It’s meant to serve as a hub for cultural exchange.
In other countries, Time Out Markets frequently host events like DJ nights, beer tastings, and jazz brunches.
I’m excited to see what kind of events and new developments are planned for Time Out Market Osaka!
