A Trip To Tenma
Maido! Osaka Bob here…
I’d like to take you with me on a trip thru Tenma— a neighborhood that’s fun during the day and even better at night. That’s because this area is full of bars and small eateries, tucked inside twisting alleys and narrow walkways near JR Temma Station.
First off, I like to explore my options. There are so many choices so I always look around and find something to fit my mood.
I decided on Shintamon Shuzo. It’s an izakaya style bar, without chairs— so you’ll have to stand up while you dine and drink.
It’s a casual place and the food is amazing. I got the fried rice (¥500) to go with my beer (a surprising, but delicious combination). Plus the owner (Han-chan) is from Malaysia so there are lots of authentic Malaysian dishes on the menu— like these roti (¥450). Yum!
Tenma is great for bar-hopping too!
Next, I stopped at Tsugie, a hormon restaurant that specializes in all cuts of meat. The grilled cow entrails (marucho-¥450) are very popular, but I went with this delicacy thigh meat (senbon suji-¥600). It was tender and juicy and delicious!!!
Any trip to Tenma isn’t complete without a walk down lantern alley. There are over 1,000 lanterns hanging from the ceiling here. And only one of them is a heart lantern! See if you can find it (easier done before drinking).
Have fun on your trip to Tenma!
