A New Place to Take in Aquametropolis Osaka: Nakanoshima GATE South Pier

In April of 2025, Nakanoshima GATE South Pier opened in Osaka. It’s a hidden gem located about a 15 minute walk from AWAZA station on the Osaka Metro Chuo line.

As you approach the entrance, you’ll notice palm trees, and a light ocean breeze. It feels just like you’re at an ocean port and everything looks fresh and new.

At Nakanoshima GATE South Pier, you can take in waterside scenery while enjoying fresh seafood. There’s also a dog run, which is great for a pet owners and the nighttime scenery is breathtaking!

Summer in Osaka is hot so it’s a good time idea to visit in the evening hours.

Prime Location, Pool, & an Amazing Menu

The location is perfect–right along the waterways surrounding Nakanoshima, with views of Osaka’s tallest skyscrapers. It’s a calm oasis along the waterfront and on the edge of urban vibrancy.

Fisherman's Wharf Nakanoshima Gate

Fisherman’s Wharf Nakanoshima GATE is the main attraction at Nakanoshima GATE South Pier. This lineup of 3 restaurants feature Japanese cuisine, Western style dishes, and BBQ, so you have a lot of variety to choose from.

Plus, when you visit during summer, you can take a dip in the pool!!!

The open-air scenery is refreshing and the pool feels completely luxurious. I didn’t go in this time, but there were kids in the water swimming and laughing. What a beautiful setting to take in the sunset.

It’s open during the late hours too, so feel free to wade into the water at night too.

Waterside Seafood Dining

Menu for Fisherman's Wharf restaurants at Nakanoshima GATE

When you arrive at a table, simply scan the QR code to order from any of 3 different restaurants serving up seafood, sushi, and BBQ! I was on a mission for seafood, so that is the menu I chose from.

And since it was a hot summer night, I couldn’t pass up and ice cold beer. The beautiful sunset is even more beautiful with a mug of beer in hand!

And there’s plenty of other drinks on the menu like highballs whiskey, sours wine Japanese sake show to cocktails and a whole list of soft drinks to choose from.

・Draft Beer ¥1000

And here it is! I ordered the Fisherman’s Paella off the seafood menu. It’s full of Little neck, clams, shrimp, and mussels. Looks delicious! And it tasted amazing too. Seafood lovers will love this dish!

・Fisherman’s Paella ¥2280

Bismarck Pizza at Nakanoshima Gate South Pier, riverside dining in Osaka

Bismarck Pizza topped with soft-boiled egg is a heaven-infused flavor combination of prosciutto, creamy carbonara inspired sauce, and fluffy egg. And the thin crust is baked thin and crispy.
A flavor you’ll instantly fall in love with. This would be a good dish to order for kids since you can slice it up into easy to eat pieces.

・Soft-boiled Egg Bismarck Pizza ¥1,700

I tagged Nakanoshima GATE South Pier on social media to get a free mini-mini salmon roe bowl. It was small, but delicious and I almost got tricked into ordering a full-sized seafood bowl. That might have been their plan after all.

Everything I had was absolutely delicious, but it was a little on the pricey side. I’ll be coming back for a special occasion sometime soon. This time I ended up ordering seafood, but next time I’d like to try the sushi or barbecue. Or maybe I’ll come back for the beer garden.

Pet-Friendly Atmosphere: Terrace Seating & An Adjoining Dog Run

Pet-Friendly Terrace Seating & An Adjoining Dog Run at Nakanoshima Gate South Pier

Part of the terrace seating area is pet friendly so I could enjoy the afternoon with my trusty companion, Tomozo.

There still aren’t very many restaurants where you can bring your dog so I was very happy to spend time with my pup and take the scenery.

At the bottom of the ramp leading up to the open terrace, there is a dog run that anyone can use for free. We got to meet some of the neighborhood dogs that were here on a walk. The dog run is small so think of it more as a place where your dog can enjoy being off the leash rather than a big area for running.

As twilight sets on the city, the staff comes around with lanterns to hang at each table. The gentle glow from the lanterns and sparkling city light make for a gorgeous evening atmosphere.
