Shitennoji Temple (四天王寺)

Tennoji

Shitennoji Temple
Japan's first Buddhist temple sanctioned by the national government, Shitennoji Temple, was built by Prince Shotoku in 593. Although the original temple buildings were lost to war and other disasters, the buildings that stand today are faithful reconstructions. The grounds contain an impressive 5-story pagoda, a cemetery, a sprawling garden, rest area with refreshments, and a number of other buildings.   The shrine holds a celebration every month on the 21st & 22nd. In addition to special ceremonies, shrine grounds are filled with over 500 stands selling food, antiques, toys, clothing, collectibles, etc.
