Compared to a lot of other countries, Osaka’s heat and humidity can get pretty intense. People are different all around the world, but here are some unique characters you probably won’t see anywhere else.

Girls under cover

It’s incredible how much some Japanese women don’t want to get a suntan. For these ladies, sunscreen isn’t enough: they’ll also be packing parasols, gloves, wide hats, sun glasses, and face masks—usually all in black. The first time I saw one I thought she was a ninja out on a mission!

Sexy kimonos & dangerous do’s

The summer kimono is usually worn to cover everything, but the way these girls wear their kimonos sure does show a lot of skin! Can’t argue with fashion I guess. But aren’t those giant pins and combs stuck in their hair kinda dangerous??

Festival folks

Did you ever notice how all the people working at the food stalls at festivals are all dressed the same!? A bandana around their head and a towel on their shoulders: I guess it gets pretty hot frying up those noodles all night! But you’ve gotta hand it to them: these pros still manage to serve you with a smile!

These office workers in full business attire brave the sweltering heat of the city, rushing stoically to their next meeting. But seriously, a suit jacket and a necktie in this weather?? Didn’t Japan invent the “cool biz” dress code??
