Trivia #34
HOW TO TACHINOMI
– stand-up drinking –
- 1. Be Social
- Customers tend to pack in close and get to know one another. Of course, it’s impolite to be too friendly if someone clearly wants to be left alone.
- 2. Watch Your Luggage
- There isn’t enough room for large suitcases in these small drinking establishments. Smaller bags can be stored under the counters or near your feet.
- 3. Dishes Max
- Since “Tachinomi” are standingroom only, space is limited. You’ll run out of room pretty quick if you put more than 2 foods on the counter at a time.
- 4. Keep It Down
- Bars are meant to be fun, but don’t go too wild! You wouldn’t want to scare the other customers.
- 5. Keep Moving
- If there are many customers waiting outside, move on to a new bar. It’s impolite to stay too
long after you’ve finished your drinks or meal.
- 6. Say “Oishikatta”
- Before You Go Telling the staff that you enjoyed your meal shows your appreciation for their hard work.
