Trivia #34

HOW TO TACHINOMI
– stand-up drinking –

1. Be Social
Customers tend to pack in close and get to know one another. Of course, it’s impolite to be too friendly if someone clearly wants to be left alone.
2. Watch Your Luggage
There isn’t enough room for large suitcases in these small drinking establishments. Smaller bags can be stored under the counters or near your feet.
3. Dishes Max
Since “Tachinomi” are standingroom only, space is limited. You’ll run out of room pretty quick if you put more than 2 foods on the counter at a time.
4. Keep It Down
Bars are meant to be fun, but don’t go too wild! You wouldn’t want to scare the other customers.
5. Keep Moving
If there are many customers waiting outside, move on to a new bar. It’s impolite to stay too long after you’ve finished your drinks or meal.
6. Say “Oishikatta”
Before You Go Telling the staff that you enjoyed your meal shows your appreciation for their hard work.
