A flavor you won’t forget– Ramen!

Maido! Osaka Bob here.

I’ve gotta tell you about a few of Osaka’s most famous ramen restaurants. Of course there is a lot to eat in Osaka and I’m sure you’ll try some of our other local specialties, but please don’t forget to have a bowl, or two, or three, of ramen while you’re here.

Kinryu Ramen is immediately recognizable by its impressive storefront. “Kinryu” means golden dragon and that is exactly what you’ll see bursting through the signboard and bright red walls. This is the ultimate post-party food after a night of drinking. And the location is perfect for a quick lunch when you’re exploring Namba and Dotonbori. Add your favorite flavors from the topping bar, which offers free kimchi and garlic chives (nira). And the soup is a classic pork broth base balanced out with soy sauce. It’s so good, I’m sure you’ll be back for more!

Dotonbori’s Landmark Giant Dragon

Ichiran is another well-loved ramen restaurant you can visit while you’re in Osaka. They serve tonkotsu ramen, which has a rich flavorful broth made from simmered pork bones. And its served with a dollop of their signature red sauce. The secret to the complex spiciness is a mixture of 30 ingredients blended together in the perfect proportions. Diners are encouraged to concentrate on their bowl of noodles and the restaurant is laid out in a way that makes dining alone the norm. It is an experience any noodle-lover must try! You’ll probably get hooked, like me…
