Cheap & Tasty Chinese Lunch: Sichuan Mapo at Tenten Shuke (Namba West location)

First on the list: a Namba favorite I’ve visited to more than 10 times Tenten Shuke Namba West location.
All lunches are under 1,000 yen, yet the portions are huge! The service is fast too, making it the perfect spot for busy office workers or anyone hunting for a quick lunch in Namba.
👇Hirotaku’s Recommendation👇
Don’t miss the Tenshinhan Lunch: A steaming hot, fluffy omelette over rice topped with fragrant green onion oil

If I had to choose one lunch to recommend, it would be the Tenshinhan lunch set. It really showcases the restaurant’s dedication to deliciousness.
For just ¥1,000 (tax included), you get a full set with Tenshinhan (fluffy omelette over rice), salad, fried chicken, spring rolls, mapo tofu, and soup. And on top of that, you can order a large portion of rice for free!
It’s unbelievably affordable for the amount of food you get. It’s hearty, satisfying, and a great choice for both your stomach and your wallet.

The sauce is strained and finished with aromatic green onion oil… Even though I’ve had this Tenshinhan countless times, when I heard how they make it, I understood why the flavor is so incredible.
👇What Makes This Restaurant Different👇
Ultimate Smoothness
The soy-based sauce that makes this dish so delicious is carefully sieved to perfection, giving it an incredibly smooth and delicate mouthfeel.
Explosive Aroma from the Green Onion Oil
At the very end, they pour a generous amount of piping-hot green onion oil over the dish, so the moment it’s served, the savory aroma hits your nose full force. You can still taste the fragrant green onion as you eat, which makes it even more delicious.

Just look at this! This thick yet incredibly fluffy egg is practically saying hello from the inside.
The silky-smooth sauce and the egg are completely fused together—it’s so soft you barely even need to chew!
At first, you might think it looks super filling. But the sauce is so incredibly light that before you know it, your plate will be empty.
You don’t just take small bites—you end up devouring it every single time (haha).

The mapo tofu in the set is served in a sizzling stone bowl, so it stays piping hot until the very last bite!
During the cooking process, the tofu is pre-boiled to remove excess moisture, which brings out its soft, jiggly texture. The chili oil is house-made using a blend of two different types of doubanjiang, creating a depth of flavor you won’t find anywhere else.

On the first bite it tastes rich—but then a slow, creeping heat builds at the back of your throat. Just as that mellows down, you’ll get a numbing kick from the Sichuan pepper… It’s absolutely perfect!

There are 11 different lunch sets in total, featuring all the Chinese classics like Tenshinhan, fried rice, ramen, gyoza, and mapo tofu. Each one is a great deal for the money.
The restaurant is extremely popular at lunchtime, so it’s almost guaranteed there will be a line. But the restaurant is spacious and the turnover is quick, so it’s definitely worth a short wait.
If you’re looking for an affordable, satisfying lunch in Namba, come hungry—you won’t be disappointed!

By the way, during dinner time, they offer gyoza at an unbelievable price—just ¥120 for a serving of 5 pieces!

👇Hirotaku’s Recommendation👇
The Homemade Tomato Margherita

The Homemade Tomato Margherita comes highly recommended! The owner spent a month training at a famous nearby pizzeria, and all the authentic techniques learned are packed into this pizza.
The crust is light and crispy, perfectly complemented by the rich, slightly tangy homemade tomato sauce. Its flavor is so deep it almost reminds you of a meaty sauce—it’s addictive! At just ¥1,200 per pizza, it’s an unbeatable deal for girls’ nights or casual drinks, making you want to exclaim, “Wow, this is cheap!”
👇What Makes This Restaurant Different👇
The pizza dough made with whole wheat flour is wonderfully fragrant and incredibly light!
The pizza dough is made with whole wheat flour, giving it an amazing aroma and an incredibly light texture! By mixing in whole wheat, the crust is more fragrant than regular pizza and surprisingly airy. My girlfriend is a huge fan too—she can easily finish a whole pizza by herself. It’s not heavy at all, making it perfect as a snack to pair with drinks!

Other dishes…
Chicken tender & avocado tartare with chili mayo sauce (¥580)
Shrimp ajillo (served with 2 slices of baguette) (¥880)

Classic Sake Izakaya Yusei, Ura Namba

One Sake for ¥380! The Ultimate Lively Izakaya in Ura NambaYusei!
I always take anyone who wants to truly experience Osaka’s izakaya scene here. Open for 11 years, this is a paradise for sake lovers with over 30 varieties of the owner’s carefully selected sweet sake always available.
👇Hirotaku’s Recommendation👇
Fried chicken and dashimaki showcasing professional skill

👇What Makes This Restaurant Different👇
Juicy, round fried chicken packed with rich, savory flavor (¥680)
The fried chicken here is unique—each piece is tightly shaped before frying to lock in the juices, so the moment you bite, the savory meat juices burst out!

👇What Makes This Restaurant Different👇
Rich, jiggly Japanese-style rolled omelet with plenty of dashi and mentaiko mayo (¥540 yen)
The flavor and price of this dashimaki are both impressive. Compared to most places, they add extra dashi, making it incredibly smooth, soft, and jiggly! Press it with your chopsticks, and the savory dashi gushes out—pure bliss.
Amazing Japanese sake! I recommend the all-you-can drink option!

Ura-Namba is packed with bars, but this place doesn’t lose at all when it comes to affordability. Sake and beer are just 380 yen a glass (excluding tax), and they fill your glass to the brim until it’s almost hard to lift! With the 1,650-yen all-you-can-drink option, you can try almost every rare sake—truly generous!
👇What Makes This Restaurant Different👇
30 Kinds of Sake to Enjoy!
The owner, who loves sweet sake, personally selects a lineup of 30 kinds of sake, always ready for you to enjoy. Plus, more than 10 varieties are swapped out every week, so you can discover new flavors every time you visit!

Plus…
✓ 3-piece oden (¥530)
✓ Sashimi platter (¥750)
✓ Chef’s choice baked fish (¥530)
✓ Chicken curry (¥640)
✓ Tempura platter (¥630) and more…
The sheer variety of dishes always surprises me! On top of that, most menu items are priced between 500–800 yen, which is incredibly affordable. The friendly owner keeps prices low so everyone can drop by easily, making it a super welcoming spot!

The atmosphere here is super friendly, with guests and staff getting along like old friends. Since they’re open until 3 am, many people stop by for a second or third round after other bars.
If you love slightly sweet sake or want to experience an authentic Osaka izakaya, this is a must-visit! Even solo female diners come often, so don’t hesitate to drop by and enjoy the lively, welcoming vibe.

A Sophisticated Yakitori Restaurant: Kashiwaya Hatikin

Finally, the spot I want to introduce is Kashiwaya Hachikin, a hidden gem for anyone looking for a little sophistication. It will completely change the way you think about yakitori.
Fun fact: I actually used to be the manager here!!!
That’s why I can confidently tell you about the restaurant’s attention to detail better than anyone else.
The moment you step inside, memories from my time there come flooding back. I can’t help but feel nostalgic thinking, ‘I used to grill these yakitori here with all my heart.
👇Hirotaku’s Recommendation👇
Yakitori That Will Change Your Expectations: Premium Thigh & Loin and Tsukune

Each skewer at Kashiwaya Hatikin is grilled over charcoal, using fresh, locally sourced chicken caught that very morning.
The must-try, fan-favorite “Premium Thigh & Loin” (¥300) is absolutely incredible! The skin is perfectly crispy, the meat is juicy and tender, and the moment you bite in, the chicken juices just burst out. The slightly richer seasoning pairs perfectly with a cold beer!
👇What Makes This Restaurant Different👇
Out-of-This-World Size!!
No need for green onions or superfluous extras. A thick, hearty piece of chicken is boldly skewered on one stick. At an astonishing 15 cm long, it’s a jaw-dropping sight! Some regulars even order 10 sticks at once. That’s how iconic this signature menu item is.

The No. 2 fan favorite, Coarsely Ground Hand-Kneaded Tsukune (¥300), is another must-try dish!
Honestly, it’s almost like a mini hamburger. The meaty texture and rich flavor just melt in your mouth. Wash it down with a cold beer for pure bliss! You can even get it topped with a raw egg yolk, making it easy to polish off 2–3 sticks in no time.
👇What Makes This Restaurant Different👇
Charcoal-Grilled Flavor “Infusion”
This is something I paid close attention to even when I was the manager. Before grilling the tsukune, we sear the fatty chicken skin to create smoke — then deliberately let that smoky aroma infuse the meat. The result is a depth of flavor that’s simply next-level!
A Chicken & Egg Rice Bowl is the Perfect Ending to Your Meal

Finally, the dish I want to recommend is the Oyako-Don made with juicy Tajima chicken and grilled over charcoal!
The chicken is lightly seared over the coals first, so you get to enjoy that wonderful smoky aroma. Combined with the gently sweet dashi broth, this dish is the perfect way to finish your meal.

The restaurant has only counter seating, so you can watch your skewers being grilled right in front of you!
Back when I was the manager, I always timed each skewer perfectly to serve it at its absolute peak of flavor.
This, right here, is the thrill of yakitori—that live, sizzling experience you just can’t get anywhere else!

They’re just as serious about their drinks as their food, with Premium Malts Masters Dream and a wide selection of sake on offer.
If you order a beer, you can even get free foam art—a rarity you’ll hardly find anywhere else in Japan!
From Doraemon and Hello Kitty to Chiikawa and Pikachu, the foam features all kinds of beloved anime characters, making it a guaranteed hit for date night too!

The counter seats are only for adults. So you can relax with a high quality yakitori one skewer at a time. And they’re only ¥200–300 a piece so this is definitely a special place. It’s a great after-work spot and fantastic for dates too. I highly recommend it!
