Imamiya Ebisu Jinja Shrine
(今宮戎神社)

Minami

This Shinto shrine is dedicated to Ebisu (aka Ebessan) the god of good luck, prosperity, and fishing. Originally established in the seventh century, a fish and produce market sprung up near the shrine a few hundred years later.
The shrine is well-known for its incredibly popular Toka Ebisu Festival held on Jan. 9-11. Approximately 1 million people visit the shrine during the three-day festival. Nearby streets are filled with street stalls selling food and merchandise late into the night. And  fukumusume (lucky women selected to participate in the festival) are carried through the streets of Osaka in palanquins in a parade on Jan. 10.
