Namba Yasaka Jinja Shrine (難波八坂神社)

Minami

Beloved by locals for its lion-dance during festivals, this shrine elicits oohs-and-ahs with its impressive lion hall/stage. The eyes actually light up and there are speakers inside its nose, which are turned on during special events. Visit during the annual summer festival (July 13–14) to enjoy the lively matsuri atmosphere and look for the festival boats and their beautiful lanterns as they maneuver through the Dotonbori Canal. The shrine office sells a beautiful goshuin (official seal/stamp) book, which can be purchased during business hours.
*Please be aware, the shrine grounds are closed evenings so be sure to visit during daytime hours.
