Shigisan aka Chogosonshiji Temple (信貴山)

Shigisan

Shigisan Temple tiger statue
This mountain temple retreat is well-known for its relationship with tigers. The giant Hariko Tiger statue greets visitors as they enter the temple gates and a number of other tigers can be found throughout the temple grounds. The temple is understandably popular with Hanshin Tiger fans.

Visitors may enjoy a yomogi (Japanese mugwart) flavored bean cake or the sweet bean-filled tiger head sweets. Have fun exploring the pitch-black maze under the main hall or walking through the tiger tunnel. Only the bravest will try bungee-jumping from the Kaiun Bridge next to the temple!

Those who wish to stay overnight can book shukubo temple lodgings and try the traditional vegetarian Buddhist monk cuisine (shojinryori).
